The Story Behind
A&D BBQ and Seafood Kitchen is more than just a restaurant, it’s a heartfelt collaboration between two passionate chefs, Larry Day and Arna Martin. Their journey to creating this establishment began in the summer of 2023, a time marked by both personal loss and newfound friendship. Larry Day, an Army veteran, and Arna Martin, the widow of a fellow veteran, crossed paths during the sale of Arna’s home following the passing of her late husband. As fate would have it, Larry experienced a similar loss shortly after. Through their shared experiences, they discovered they both had a deep love for cooking and an impressive history of serving up delicious meals. Each had previously owned a food truck, and their mutual passion for food led to an inspiring idea—to join forces and establish a brick-and-mortar restaurant.
Where It Started
Thus, A&D BBQ and Seafood Kitchen was born in Converse, TX. With Larry overseeing the BBQ side of the operation and Arna curating an exquisite menu of seafood and soul food, the restaurant delivers a perfect balance of flavors to satisfy every appetite. Their combined expertise and commitment to quality ensure that each meal served is more than just food—it’s a reflection of their journey, dedication, and love for culinary excellence. Most importantly, A&D BBQ and Seafood Kitchen is a tribute to their late spouses, Carolyn Day and Johnny Martin. To honor their memories, Larry and Arna have crafted signature dishes named after each, ensuring that their love and legacy remain a part of every meal served. Through this dedication, they continue to celebrate the lives and support of those who inspired them along the way.
